Vintage Varsity Inspired Style
Here at exalt we try to avoid fashion fads and focus in on classic sartorial style in men’s fitness apparel but this trend is just that, steeped in heritage, sporting tradition and vintage style, it’s one we can’t ignore and actively embrace. GQ Style has picked up on this varsity vogue for spring/summer (pick up this season’s Style Edition for the full shoot), this video evokes the feel to wet your appetite. (A note to any younger readers: There is one bad style choice in this video – smoking. It’s not cool, not even a little bit and it obviously won’t help your fitness levels either.)

GQ Style | Jocks and Nerds:

Vintage varsity inspired style has been on our radar for sometime now. Back in October, we saw the retro track and field trend in our top selection of fitness mid-layers for autumn/winter and of course, two of our favourite running brands, Tracksmith and Iffley Road, embody this trend as part of their core branding. Tracksmith has a collegiate track and field vibe to it whilst Iffley Road evokes a classic “Chariots of Fire” feel. We’re also really excited about Todd Snyder’s collaboration with Champion which gives classic retro athletic a fresh, modern and incredibly stylish twist (we’ll be focusing in on the Todd Snyder + Champion range in the coming weeks so check back for further insight).

With the historical Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race taking place today, what better time to highlight the vintage varsity trend with our top picks of collegiate, preppy but super stylish workout gear. It’s also worth checking out the full ranges from the brands featured here via the links. All these garments can also be mixed and matched with commuter style chinos, jeans and blazers too for a casual look that will also facilitate an active lifestyle outside of the gym/training, making them great investment pieces for multi-functional use.
